The Ugly Side of Fashion

I never intended to write about the so called "Ugly Side of Fashion" but while researching for my "Weekly Fashion" Issue, I was utterly upset at the choices some of the designers have given us this season. I do appreciate the eccentricity side of fashion when it is done with taste and not with mockery. But more and more these days, there are many designers who present us with a different, yet entirely unimaginative vision. They are going down a road of designing things that for the majority of us, in a million years, would never wear. However, once they are worn and endorsed by today's top celebrities or fashion bloggers, then they become the next "must have" items. It is quite sad and disappointing and come to think of it, they should be paying us to wear such silly creations, and certainly, not the other way around. So speaking of the devils and without naming names, here are some sad but true examples: ___________________________________________________________________________________ *Crisp Packet Clutch / The silliness of this speaks for itself
*Patchwork Jeans / No matter how this look can be jazzed up or dressed up, it will never work
*Embossed Rubber Tote / I can't even begin to fathom who in their right mind or age would wear this
*Organza Maxi Skirt / This will set you back for more than USD 1,000 and the trousers do not come with the look, just the see-through piece of fabric
*Nylon Trech Coat / Another one that will set you back for more than USD 1,000
*Shoulder Bags / Do you imagine wearing this a year from now when they switch to something like Burger King?
As mentioned, it is not my style to discuss this "other side" of fashion because I just simply do not take pleasure in doing so. But there comes a point where we consumers, should stop supporting such silly antics. Just because a famous designer decided to create something stupid, either out of desperation due to lack of imagination or for sheer experimentation purpose, we don't have to end up looking like "Fashion Victims" for their benefits.
