LFW - Tata Naka for Spring / Summer 2015

There is a nice ring to the name Tata Naka, a dress label owned by Georgian twin sisters, Tamar and Natasha Surguladze. Now based in London, the sisters were originally from Tbilisi, Georgia but moved to the UK where they graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art. Immediately after graduation, the sisters started their label in 2000 and their designs were featured widely including the dress worn by Carrie Bradshaw on the cover of the official "Sex and The City" book. As a fan of the show for many many years, I was intrigued to see what the designers have for us this coming Spring and Summer season. The setting was at the historic Royal Academy of Arts while offset by the demure and simplicity of the upcoming collection. Unlike the previous Spring and Summer season, this collection is more refined, classic and very much wearable. I fell in love with some of the timeless black and white dresses that simply personify modernity and romanticism at the same time. And true to their previous designs, the collection featured bright dresses and one particular jumpsuit that I absolutely adore. Below are some memorable moments from the Presentation:

__________________________________________________________________________________ Hay un muy buen sello llamado Taka Naka, una firma de costura de propiedad de dos gemelas georgianas Tamar y Natasha Surguladze. Ahora localizadas en Londres, las hermanas originalmente son de Tbilisi, Georgia pero se trasladaron al Reino Unido donde se graduaron del Central Saint Martins College of Art. Inmediatamente después de su graduación, las hermanas empezaron su firma en el 2000 y su diseños fueron reseñados ampliamente incluyendo el vestido llevado por Carrie Bradshaw en la cubierta del libro oficial de Sex and the City (Sexo en la Ciudad). Como fan del programa de televisión por muchos años, estaba interesada en ver que tenían estas diseñadoras para nosotras para la próxima estación de Primavera y Verano. La presentación tuvo lugar en la histórica Royal Academy of Arts (Academia Real de Artes) pero esto se compensó con la simplicidad y el recato de la colección. A diferencia de la previa estación de Primavera y Verano, esta colección es más refinada, clásicay mucho más llevadera. Me enamoré de algunos de los vestidos blanco y negro intemporales que simplemente personifican a la vez modernidad y romanticismo. Y fieles a sus previos diseños, la colección presentó vestidos brillantes y en particular un jumpsuit (overol) que adoré totalmente. A continuación algunos momentos memorables de la Presentación:

LFW - TOGA Archives for Spring / Summer 2015

It was during one of my trips back to London earlier this year that I first learned about TOGA Archives. While at one of my favourite shops, Selfridges, I came across a very simple yet striking white sweater by the designer. In terms of shopping for the right stuff, my strategy is quite straight forward, if the item appeals to me in both quality and structure within the first few minutes, then I know it is something I had to have. I must admit, the sweater is becoming one of those few items in my closet that I am happy to have bought because it is timeless, unique and versatile. So, needless to say, when London Fashion Week came around, an opportunity to attend their Presentation at the St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel was something I was very excited about. ___________________________________________________________________________________ The creative mind behind the label is Yasuko Furuta from Tokyo, Japan. Ms. Furuta graduated from Esmode in Paris and thereafter, worked as a freelance costume maker. For Spring and Summer 2015, the collection is what I would describe as "fierce femininity". Soft and transparent fabrics were present in a more structured yet playful mode. Subtle playing with patterns highlighted certain aspects of the collection without taking over the overall feel of an artistic romance. I love the dominant colour palette of soft cream with hints of boyish charm. Overall, these are pieces that are both wearable and fun. And that is what Spring and Summer is all about, forgetting about the cold, dark winter days and bring forth those sunnier moments where we can shed our winter inhibition and lighten the mood with softer silhouettes. Take or leave the outfit as they are, there are pieces that can work either together or separately. Overall, the collection is one of the few ones I attended during Fashion Week where I feel the clothes are both wearable and fun. Indeed they are creative and could be a bit 'avant garde' for some but they are not over exaggerated to the extent that they are no longer realistic. There is a romantic thought process and I applaud the designer of bringing us a collection that is somewhat pushed the fashion boundaries in terms of structure but nevertheless, it is a very beautiful collection. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Fue durante uno de mis viajes de vuelta a Londres a principios de este año que conocí por primera vez Toga Archives (Archivos TOGA) Mientras estaba en una de mis tiendas favoritas, Selfridges, me encontré con un suéter blanco muy simple pero llamativo confeccionado por este diseñador. Para comprar la prenda correcta, mi estrategia es muy sencilla, si en los primeros minutos el ítem me atrae tanto en términos de calidad como de estructura, sé entonces que es algo que tengo que tener. Debo admitir que el suéter se está convirtiendo en uno de esos artículos en mi armario que me alegro de haber comprado porque es atemporal, único y versátil. Por lo tanto y no hace falta decirlo, que cuando llegó el momento de la Semana de la Moda de Londres la oportunidad de asistir a su Presentación en el St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel me entusiasmaba mucho. ___________________________________________________________________________________ La mente creativa detrás de la firma es Yasuko Furuta de Tokio, Japón. El señor Furuta se graduó de Esmode en París y, posteriormente, trabajó como fabricante independiente de vestuario. Para la Primavera y Verano de 2015, la colección es lo que yo describiría como "feminidad feroz". Las telas suaves y transparentes se presentaron en un modo estructurado pero travieso a la vez. Un juego sutil de patrones resaltó ciertos aspectos de la colección, sin quitar la sensación general de romanticismo artístico. Me encanta la paleta de crema suave como color dominante con toques de encanto juvenil. En general, se trata de piezas que se pueden llevar a diario y son a la vez divertidas. Y de eso es de lo que se trata la Primavera y Verano, de olvidar los fríos y oscuros días de invierno y traer esos momentos más soleados donde podemos dejar nuestra inhibición invernal y aligerar el estado de ánimo con siluetas más suaves. Los conjuntos se pueden dejar como son o no, hay piezas que funcionan tanto juntas como por separado. En general, la colección es una de las pocas a las que asistí durante Semana de la Moda, en la que sentí que la ropa es tanto fácil de llevar como divertida. Aunque las piezas son creativas y podrían ser un poco 'avant garde' para algunos, no se exageran hasta el punto de que no sean realistas.
